What do you think of when you think of church? Perhaps the image that comes to mind is that of a dusty old building, with a cross on top, and uncomfortable seats and a noisy pipe organ inside, with dull religious monotones from a wee man in a pulpit. Hopefully that’s not what you’ll find at Leslie Baptist.
The church is really not the building at all – its the people. Ordinary people with the same issues as everyone else. People who want others to know the good news of Jesus Christ – that God cares for us, forgives us, and truly wants to give us life in all its fulness. Our God draws us into a community of faith, where we try to work out what “life in all its fulness” looks like. And sadly we do fail at this from time to time. One of the most famous Christians who ever lived, St Paul, wrote: “Here’s a word you can take to heart and depend on: Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. I’m proof – Public Sinner Number One – of someone who could never have made it apart from sheer mercy.” (1 Timothy 1:15) Yep, that’s it. So even if you feel you could never be perfect, we are far from perfect, but with God’s help we can learn to become more like Jesus and do the things he did.
