During Sunday morning worship services, we encourage families and those bringing children to relax, feel welcome, and not to worry about making a noise. We believe that children are to be welcomed, blessed and celebrated – not embarrased about. That old saying ‘little children should be seen and not heard’ isn’t biblical. Jesus welcomed and blessed the little children (Luke 18:15-17), and the Bible tells us that believers and their children would kneel and pray together at crucial times (Acts 21:5). We try to do that as often as possible.
Normally about a third of the way into our morning service, children are invited to go through to the Lister Hall for Sunday school and Bible class. However, from time to time we have special all-age worship services where we encourage all the children to stay for the whole service and get involved. There are flags to wave, and instruments to play, and if there is no Sunday school, activity resources are available to occupy the kids.
All our Sunday school and Bible class leaders are PVG registered, and they provide times of great fun and learning for children. Kids soak in vast amounts of information, as well as attitudes and values. So, as well as teaching children Bible stories, and having a great time doing it with songs, crafts, dramas and play, our leaders are seeking to impart Biblical values, faith, hope and Christlike love to all our kids. We want them to know that God loves them and believes in them.
